This year, Leading Solvents isn’t just turning another page on the calendar, we are celebrating a monumental 40 years of operation.
It is a story that proves British manufacturing and chemical distribution is alive, thriving, and still driven by the same values that started it all back in 1986.
Every business starts somewhere, and for CEO and Founder Derek Walker, that somewhere was a small, modest premises right here in Yorkshire.
With limited resources but unlimited grit, Derek began supplying essential solvents to local businesses. There were no fancy boardrooms, no fleet of lorries, and no global logistics network. There was just a relentless commitment to keeping customers supplied, safe, and satisfied.
From those first few orders, Derek built more than a business he built a reputation. A reputation for reliability, technical knowledge, and the kind of Yorkshire work ethic that doesn't cut corners.
Fast forward 40 years, and the landscape looks very different.
Today, Leading Solvents stands as a well established, world class chemical supplier and manufacturer. We have evolved from a single point of sale into a true industrial powerhouse, now employing over 100 dedicated staff members across three locations.
Our reach has extended far beyond the Yorkshire borders. We are proud to supply vital products to industries across the globe, helping manufacturers, processors, and innovators do what they do best.
Whilst the team has grown, the infrastructure has transformed. We have invested heavily in multiple production facilities fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and machinery. From advanced blending to precise packing, our technology ensures we can compete with the best in the world.
However, in an industry where technology changes rapidly, the most important thing hasn't changed at all: The ethos.
Despite the expansion, the staff numbers, and the advanced machinery, the compass that guides Leading Solvents is the same one Derek used 40 years ago.
Customers remain at the heart of the operation.
As we raise a glass to the last four decades, we are simultaneously looking ahead to the next.
